How to set up Cmder’s “Cmder Here” context menu integration in Windows 10 Windows Explorer and launch Cmder in a new window with Windows PowerShell
Cmder’s Windows Explorer context menu option ‘Open Cmder Here’ is handy to open cmder from Windows Explorer, whilst keeping the same path.
We will also be changing Cmder’s default startup shell, from cmd to PowerShell.
The following steps will enable the context menu in Windows 10, and ensures the current path in Windows Explorer will be used in Cmder:
- Ensure the PowerShell task is correctly defined.
Menu -> Settings -> Startup -> Tasks
It should look like below…Commands
PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -NoLogo -NoProfile -NoExit -Command "Invoke-Expression 'Import-Module ''%ConEmuDir%..profile.ps1'''"
Task parameters
/icon "%CMDER_ROOT%iconscmder.ico"
-
Change Cmder’s Startup task to be PowerShell.
Menu -> Settings -> Startup
- Edit the registry as follows or use the registry editing file by skipping to step 4…
Start Registry Editor
Win Sleutel + R -> regedit -> Click OK
Show the Address bar in the Registry Editor if it is not already showing
View -> Address Bar
Add the first registry entry
Registry Path:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell
Right click shell -> New -> Key
Name the key

Edit the (verstek) string to
Cmder Here

Edit the (verstek) string to
Cmder Here

{path to cmder}iconscmder.ico,0
Add the fourth registry entry
Registry Path:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\cmder
Right click
cmder -> New -> Key
In command, set the value of Default, replacing {path to cmder} with your own path:
{path to cmder}Cmder.exe" "%V"
-
If you carried out step 3, please skip this step.
Instead of manually editing the registry, you can simply download and unzip the file. Open the
enable-cmder-context-menu.reg
file and replace {path to cmder} with the path to cmder on your Windows PC. Save the file and close it. Double click the file and accept any prompts.
The context menu now should be working. Right click on the desktop and click Cmder Here. Cmder should open with PowerShell with the present working directory as your desktop.
You can remove the Cmder Here entry from the context menu by running the disable-cmder-context-menu.reg
lêer, which was included in the zip file.
