How to check the latest SDK version for updating the build.gradle(Module: app) file in Android Studio?
Here are the instructions, if you need to update the build.gradle(Module: app) file to the latest SDK version.
- Open SDK Manager (Click
or Tools -> Android -> SDK Manager) - Choose the SDK Tools Tab
- Check the Show Package Details Checkbox
- Use the highest installed version

Here the 25.0.2 checkbox is ticked, therefore this is the highest version.
Update the build.gradle(Module: app) file, in particular the value for the key buildToolsVersion.
apply plugin: 'com.android.application'
android {
compileSdkVersion 25
buildToolsVersion "25.0.2"
defaultConfig {
applicationId "com.teamtreehouse.musicmachine"
minSdkVersion 16
targetSdkVersion 25
versionCode 2
versionName "1.0.1"
}
buildTypes {
release {
minifyEnabled false
proguardFiles getDefaultProguardFile('proguard-android.txt'), 'proguard-rules.pro'
}
}
}
dependencies {
compile fileTree(dir: 'libs', include: ['*.jar'])
testCompile 'junit:junit:4.12'
compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:25.3.1'
compile 'com.android.support:recyclerview-v7:25.3.1'
compile 'com.android.support:design:25.3.1'
